With Veterans Day approaching on Nov. 11, it is important to remember and recognize those who fought in the United States armed forces. This Veterans Day, local veterans’ organizations will hold meetings and events to honor the men and women who put their lives on the line for our country.

The American Legion Rusy-Bohm Post 411 will sponsor a Resource Fair in Support of veterans, service members and their families just two days before Veterans Day, on Nov. 9 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Resources and activities will be on-site to help veterans and their families. The event will feature health screenings, mental health resources and fitness tips.

Some featured organizations will include Northwell Military Liaison Services, Suffolk County Veterans Agency, Paws of War and Long Island Cares. The event is free entry and can be signed up for via their Facebook page.

South Shore University Hospital will hold a Veterans Day Breakfast on Nov. 13 from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. for SSUH veterans. The breakfast will take place at 1933 Union Boulevard in Bay Shore. Veterans who currently work at SSUH are welcome to enjoy breakfast at this event.

The American Legion Post 1738 will hold their monthly meetings on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month. This month’s first meeting will be held on Nov. 12, a day after Veterans Day, from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m.

The Suffolk County Community College’s Michael J. Grant Campus will hold a Veterans Day ceremony on Nov. 13. The ceremony will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. in the Grant Veterans Plaza. The event was organized by the SCCC Veterans Affairs.
