The beefsteak was a hit

Posted

The Sayville Rotary’s Beefsteak event last week sold 341 tickets, with over 300 guests and families attending, including sponsors, for this feel-good charity fundraiser held on the grounds of the Long Island Maritime Museum.  Rotary president Amy Hutchinson, who headed the Beefsteak Committee, cajoled attendees into selling raffle tickets with her usual exuberant flair and thanked her committee, including Peter Weigel, Sal Annarumma and Drew Baldwin, with a shout-out to Sayville Chamber of Commerce president Eileen Tyznar, who ran the raffle items and door prize. But at least 35 of the members personally got the permits, set up the tables, shucked clams, cooked the beef and corn, doled out the food, and cleaned up; community volunteers pitched in as well. Ice cream treats from Roxy's Ice Cream Truck, a free bonus for all attendees, was contributed by Legis. Anthony Piccirillo, assemblyman Jarett Gandolfo and Islip Town councilpeople Mary Kate Mullen and James O’Connor. Behind-the-scenes tentative plans began in March. It was a nail-biter until COVID restrictions were lifted late May. All funds raised are donated to local charities.
