Sen. Dean Murray seeks second term

Dem candidate is not actively campaigning

Dean Murray (R,C) will be running for reelection in the NY Senate 3rd District.

“I am running for reelection to continue working on different issues and policies aimed at making Long Island and all of New York safer and more affordable,” he said. “Drunk and drugged driving and hit-and-run accidents are happening far too much lately, so I’m teaming with Suffolk D.A. Ray Tierney on a package of bills aimed at fighting the fentanyl/drug epidemic that is taking far too many lives.”

Murray has also recently introduced legislation called Nick’s Law, which would increase the punishment for those that flee the scene of an accident resulting in death, with the hope that it will act as a deterrent to those who think about fleeing so they will stay and call for help.

On a larger scale, Murray said, he is also working with colleagues from both sides of the aisle aimed at creating incentives for local governments and developers to create more housing stock while following all local zoning and ordinances.

“I’m working with federal and local elected officials as well as the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers on projects to help Long Islanders deal with ongoing flooding issues,” he added.

As senator for the last two years, Murray said he is proud to have also worked across the aisle to pass Angelica’s Law, which cracks down on those who continue to drive with a suspended license.

“I also joined my colleagues in fighting to restore education funding that the Governor had threatened to drastically cut,” he continued. “We were able to restore hundreds of millions of dollars to our schools.”

Additionally, he said, “I have worked to bring home hundreds of thousands of dollars to multiple fire departments throughout the 3rd Senate District, who had been promised money in the past but had never received it.”

During this time, he also co-sponsored legislation aimed at raising billions of dollars to protect waterways through the installation of sewers and the replacement of old septic systems with new IA (individual advanced) septic systems.

Murray previously served two separate stints, totaling seven years, in the NYS Assembly, the first time from February 2010 through December 2012 and the second time from January 2015 through December 2018.

A Suffolk businessman for roughly 27 years, Murray founded the Long Island Fugitive Finder magazine and website, partnering with local law enforcement to put hundreds of criminals behind bars.

Murray also owned and operated the Long Island Job Finder employment newspaper and website, helping tens of thousands of Long Islanders find new jobs and new careers. Since COVID, the Job Finder and the LI Fugitive Finder magazine have been closed down, but the LI Fugitive Finder website (www.LiFugitiveFinder.com) is still active.

Murray resides in East Patchogue with his 15-year-old Havanese Shi-Tzu, Pete.

He is also the former vice chairman of both the Suffolk County Democratic Committee and Brookhaven Town Democratic Committee and the former chairman of the Suffolk County Democratic Committee Screening Committee. He is not actively campaigning.
