Second annual Rifleman Run 5K

The second annual Rifleman Run 5K was held on Sept. 19, outside VFW Post 414 in Center Moriches.  The marathon started on Main Street at 10 a.m. in front of VFW Post 414, and it proceeded through Main Street and Union Avenue to reach the Union Avenue Dock, before returning to VFW Post 414.  A separate race for kids was held at 9:45 a.m. before the main marathon.  Medals and small trophies were given to the fastest participants in the Rifleman Run.  A cash bar at VFW Post 414 was offered to marathon participants, and the event ended with a live performance from Tiger Rose, a Grateful Dead tribute band.  The Rifleman Run 5K aimed to raise money for renovations to VFW Post 414’s building, and the event organizers hope to bring back the marathon and expand it for next year.
