Islip athletes sign on the dotted line

The Islip School District is pleased to announce that six student-athletes signed national letters of intent on Nov. 10 to continue playing their sport at Division I and II colleges or universities next fall. Signing a national letter of intent is one of the most important highlights of a student-athlete’s career.

Islip High School principal Jon LaRochester said the students should be proud and spoke about being an athlete.

“I wouldn’t be where I am today if not for my athletic experiences,” he said. “Through athletics you make bonds only an athlete understands. Be proud and be prepared to work.”

In addition to saying that the district provided excellent experiences for the athletes to rely on, director of health, physical education and athletics John Sparacio also noted the role parents played in the success of their son or daughter.

“This is a very exciting time in your lives, but the sacrifices your parents made also need to be recognized,” he said.

Brook Avenue Opens STEAM Room

Brook Avenue School recently held a ribbon cutting for its new STEAM room. This room will allow students space to learn and create during both art class and STEAM class, which was expanded this year with the addition of a dedicated STEAM teacher. Many who were instrumental in the vision and completion of the room were on hand to celebrate, including superintendent Dr. Steven Maloney, district administrators, teachers, and carpenters. The Parent Faculty Association (PFA) was also recognized for its donation of $10,000 to help fund the space.

Bay Shore: Thank you, Board of Education

During the month of October, the Bay Shore School District celebrated School Board Recognition Month. At the Oct. 27, 2021, Public Session the district took the opportunity to thank the Bay Shore Board of Education for its volunteer service and commitment to providing the best possible educational opportunities to our students. Members of the Bay Shore High School Harmonaires performed two musical numbers. Superintendent of Schools Dr. Steven Maloney thanked the board on behalf of the district. Representatives of the Bay Shore Administrators Association and the Bay Shore Classroom Teachers Association were also on hand to express their gratitude.

Prekindergarten classes give thanks to veterans

The prekindergarten classes at Paul J. Bellew Elementary School in the West Islip School District showed their gratitude this Veterans Day. The students created more than 70 cards that were delivered – along with some candy – to the local veterans at the Northport VA Hospital. All of the cards were handmade and filled with heartfelt thanks for those who served the country.
