The Suffolk County Police is actively investigating a suspected murder that occurred inside a home on Pearl Court in Sayville.
Rachel Frislid, 62, was found unconscious inside her home by a family member Thursday around 8:30 p.m. according to police. Suffolk County Police commissioner Kevin Catalina said a press conference Friday morning that they believe Frislid was a victim of a violent crime due to the nature of her injuries, and that the incident appeared to happen the same day.
Catalina added they believe it was a targeted attack, and said Sayville residents shouldn’t fear for their safety. The police shared few details at the conference due to the active investigation, and said they couldn’t share information about any potential suspects.
Residents of the community woke up to the news in shock, and neighbor Joseph Romano of Johnson Avenue, said nearby residents help one another out and look after each other in times of need.
Eileen Tyznar, president emeritus/administrator of the Greater Sayville Chamber of Commerce, and Chris Olsen, the chamber’s vice president, were schoolmates with Frislid at Seaford High School, and stayed friends with her for over 40 years.
Tyznar said Frislid, a dedicated Sayville chamber member who ran the business Academy Tent Rentals in Bohemia, was an “extremely hard-working, wonderful woman.”
This is a developing story. The Suffolk County News will provide updates as more information is made available.
