Networking tips from LeTip

LeTip of Suffolk South Shore held a networking mixer at La Buena Vida, on Montauk Highway in Moriches, on Feb. 15. The evening event brought out more than a dozen current and potential members, who chatted and networked over a delicious array of empanadas, stuffed mushrooms, and other appetizers.

The Suffolk South Shore chapter is less than a year old and was started by real estate agent Tina Jahrsdoerfer, who said LeTip is a national networking organization that helps people grow their businesses through referrals. One member from every professional background is invited to join the organization. Once that member is in and the category is filled, no other professionals from that category are invited to join. For example, there is only one real estate agent, financial services professional, carpenter, etc.

For John Dinkelmeyer, an executive member of the club, LeTip is all about networking.

“Our purpose is to help each other grow in our respective businesses, through referrals,” said Dinkelmeyer.

Dinkelmeyer explained that networking within his community is extra rewarding.

“I enjoy living in a small community. I like that small-town feel and I like to promote other local businesses. You want your own local community to succeed,” said Dinkelmeyer. “I’m more likely to get business from another local business person, and they’re more likely to get business from me because we know each other because we’re neighbors. We see each other out to dinner, we see each other out at the post office. That’s part of the attraction to a local chapter. We all live in the Moriches, Mastic, Shirley area.” 

Joseph Furnari, vice president of the chapter, called it satisfying to be able to network and refer businesses in his community.

“I’m making connections with people in my area; I’m making lifelong working relationships, and part of the purpose is also to make personal friendships as well. It’s the potential of adding to my personal network as well as my professional network,” he explained.

Jahrsdoerfer explained that additional networking events will follow.

“We’re going to try to do one every quarter,” said Jahrsdoerfer, adding that the next event is slated for April or May of this year.
