Momo’s Too raises $10K for local charity

Raising almost $10,000 for local charity Angela’s House, go-to pub Momo’s Too in Bayport had a well-attended—and well-celebrated—golf outing at Timber Point Golf Course.

The 12th annual golf outing for Momo’s Too, the event has grown to a community-wide festivity.

Rich and Tracey Comunale, owners of Momo’s Too, have a long-standing tradition of charitable ventures involving their employees and patrons in donations to Angela’s House.

“It’s important to us to give back to the community,” said Comunale, “and Angela’s House does incredible good work for those in need; we are humbly honored to be able to help them in their endeavors.” 

Angela’s House, established by Bob and Angie Policastro, whose daughter Angela, born in 1989, suffered severe brain damage during her birth, leaving her medically frail and requiring nursing care, were determined to address the paucity in care on Long Island after they had to travel to Connecticut to find a hospital facility that could care for their daughter.

The doors of the first home of Angela’s House, located in East Moriches, opened in the fall of 2000 and offered 24-hour nursing care. In the spring of 2005, a second home in Smithtown opened and was able to aid another eight children.

Over a 162 golfers, many of who were Momo’s regulars, paid an entry fee of $170 to enjoy a day out with additional games, drinks and food.

With 42 foursomes, all three courses at Timber Point were utilized.

Bartenders at Momo’s and Momo’s Too held two “closest to the pin” and two “longest drive” contests for eventgoers.

Chevrolet of Smithtown sponsored a hole-in-one competition to win a Camaro.

“Our staff is always a big part of our events,” said Comunale. “We couldn’t do it without them. They help raise money, get gift baskets, and gift cards from local businesses and patrons.”

Over 45 gift baskets were raffled off after being donated by local families and business owners.

Sam Beccaris, a popular bartender at Momo’s Too who is revered by her regular patrons on her Tuesday shift, said, “The golf outing is my favorite day of the year! It’s so nice to see so many people from the community coming together to help us help other people. The golfers, the Chinese auction donations, and the hole sponsorships… it’s nice to be reminded of the good in the world and it’s a great feeling to be a part of it.”

The money raised at the golf outing and subsequent raffle baskets at the after-party held at Momo’s Too will go towards equipment to help the children in Angela’s House with their breathing and a lift for the organization’s van to help children in wheelchairs get in and out of the vehicle.
