On Tuesday, July 30, the Town of Islip held a grand opening for the new, fully renovated Byron Lake Pool facility in Oakdale.
The pool officially closed for renovation in October 2022 and opened for the 2024 summer season alongside other town facilities in June.
The main footprint of the pool and building structure remained relatively the same, with updates and improvements both structurally and aesthetically. The entire roof was replaced and aesthetic siding was added to the building.
The septic system was also updated to meet Health Department regulations.
The $20 million renovation features a “state-of-the art” pool with handicap accessibility, with an apparatus to lower and raise limited-mobility individuals into the water.
Towering pool slides engulf one side of the pool and a splash park for younger visitors were also filled with children on opening day.
