Suffolk County Police Arson Squad detectives are investigating a fire where a good Samaritan rescued a resident from a second story window in Sayville today. Suffolk County Police Fifth Precinct officers responded to a 911 call reporting a fire at 376 Astor Drive with one person trapped in the home. Upon police arrival, officers found a teenager had been rescued from the home by Richard Mosback, who was unable to enter the front door due to heavy smoke and flames and used a ladder supported by a second good Samaritan to escort the boy from his second-floor window. A dog was later found deceased in the residence. Mosback was transported to an area hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation. The resident of the home did not require medical attention. Multiple fire departments, as well as the Town of Islip Fire Marshal responded. The cause of the fire is under investigation but it is not believed to be criminal.
