Troop 4000 Cadette Girl Scouts (pictured left to right) Audrey F., Makena W., Delaney M., and Rebecca R. earned their Silver Award by helping a local church in our community. Girl Scout Rebecca R. belongs to St. John the Baptist Episcopal church at 33 Railroad Avenue, Center Moriches. The church was looking for a new food pantry sign, so Rebecca told her sister Girl Scouts about the church’s need for a sign, and they decided that helping the church would be a great Silver Award project. While the Girl Scouts were discussing with the church the need for the new food pantry sign, the church informed Girl Scout Troop 4000 of an increasing need for hygiene products within the community. Audrey F., Delaney M., Makena W. and Rebecca R. raised funds by selling cookies and holding a car wash to purchase a new food pantry sign. They also held numerous hygiene drives at local shopping centers; they even placed collection boxes at Westhampton Beach and Center Moriches libraries to collect donations for the church’s food pantry. The four Girl Scouts reached out to East End Sign Design, Curtis Campbell Dental Office, Blistex Inc., Stony Brook University. Pecking Bay Medical Center, and Kurt Weiss for help with their Silver Award. They were very pleased to learn we have such a supportive and loving community. We are all so glad we were able to help out a local church and community.
