Brookhaven Town successfully conducted its free rabies clinic on Saturday, April 19, in partnership with the Suffolk County Health Department. The event, held at Brookhaven’s Animal Shelter on Horseblock Road, provided free rabies vaccinations to 183 dogs, cats, and ferrets, ensuring the health and safety of pets throughout the community.

Town supervisor Dan Panico praised the shelter staff for their hard work and dedication in making the clinic a success. “Rabies prevention is essential for both pets and the public, and I commend everyone involved for helping to protect our community,” said supervisor Panico.

The newly renovated shelter accommodated small and large dogs, while pet owners were instructed to bring cats and ferrets in secure carriers and dogs on leashes. After receiving their vaccinations, pet owners were provided with new rabies tags to display on their pets’ collars, signifying their updated protection against the virus.

To further enhance community safety, Brookhaven Town will continue offering free rabies clinics once a month through the summer, with upcoming sessions scheduled for specific Saturdays in May, June, July, and August from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. No appointment is necessary, and all Suffolk County pet owners are welcome to participate, regardless of their town of residence.
