In October, Islip Terrace couple Amanda Osnard and her husband Sebastien Osnard opened My Town’s Café in East Islip.
The couple had their first date at Ralph’s Italian Ices, and nine years later, they fulfilled their longtime dream of opening a coffee shop, which happens to be located across the way at 51 W. Main Street.
Sebastien and Amanda’s coffee shop-owner aspirations began when they were dating.
The couple would often attend Bible Study at their church and thought it would be nice to have Bible Study outside of the church. A coffee shop was one of the first places that came to mind. That was when they decided to open one of their own. However, they were unsure how to make it happen.
They met the owners of Milano Bean Café, who previously owned the space. They quickly became close friends and later mentors for the Osnard couple. That friendship brought them the opportunity to make their dreams a reality, and they were both ready to seize them.
Amanda shared how the name My Town’s Café came to be.
“We want everyone to feel that this is their cafe. We want to bring quality to people and make them feel loved and welcomed here, regardless of their stages or walks of life,” she said.
With Milano Bean’s great reputation in the East Islip community, the Osnards worried about how the community would react to the change, but they were welcomed with open arms.
Throughout the last four months, they explained, the community has shown them kindness and unwavering support. Just recently, My Town’s Café provided hot chocolate for the Islip Terrace tree lighting.
The rustic yet modern, cozy establishment is the perfect place to get work done, spend time with friends, host get-togethers, or just relax while enjoying one of their many signature beverages, the most popular being hot chocolate and their chai tea latte.
There are also various treats, including muffins, crumb cake, baklava cheesecake, tiramisu, and macaroons. Brownies provided by Willow Baked Goods and Linzer tart cookies from Sugar Sweet Treats are a delicious option for those who are vegan or follow a gluten-free diet.
However, the most popular sweet snack is their “Croffle.” The Croffle is a croissant and waffle hybrid topped with whipped cream made in-house and a choice of topping and drizzle.
My Town’s Café hosts an open mic every Friday night from 6 to 9 p.m. On Saturday, Jan. 18, they will be hosting a Worship Open Mic Night from 6 to 9 p.m. To stay up to date and learn more about upcoming events, check out mytownscafe on Instagram and Facebook.
