Local Boy Scout Eric Mathew Corn of Troop 414 was recently awarded Eagle Scout at the VFW 414 in Center Moriches under leader Dan Guastella. He is known around town for his work putting up American flags multiple times throughout the years and always assisting the Moriches Chamber.
Corn started his Scouting journey in 2013 as a Bobcat in Pack 2004. As a Cub, he earned numerous activity badges and the Arrow of Light before bridging to a Boy Scout. After Cub Scouts, he became a Boy Scout with Troop 414.
Additionally, almost every year he has earned a spot in the Top 10 for Scout of the Year based upon troop participation (including service hours, food drives, cleanups, assistance with Eagle Scout projects, etc.) and merit badges earned.
“I have countless memories over the years from all the activities I have participated in. I’ve been to every Calverton National Cemetery flag activity and on almost every campout,” he said. “In October, we normally would have a campout and invite our family on one of the nights. Lots of laughs and good memories reciting and creating skits to perform.”
Corn loves to build things and is looking forward to going into carpentry. He is also already certified for OSHA 10. He will graduate high school in June.
“I’m happy I took this path acquiring these skills and being able to make all me,” he added. “These [are] valuable relationships. Scouting has been an amazing journey for me.”
