Cleaning drains to prevent flooding

Posted

In anticipation of Hurricane Ida, the Town of Islip Public Works Department went out to pump drains in known flooding areas in Sayville, including the drain near the Land’s End resort on Browns River Road on Wednesday, Sept. 1.

Four drains in total were attended to by the five-man crew, with a range of experience from a newly inducted member to a 20-year veteran.

The crew members assured that regular maintenance was performed on the drains, but were especially critical to pump in anticipation of heavy rainfall from the impending storm.

Islip Town supervisor Angie Carpenter greeted crew members and thanked them for their hard work in anticipation of Hurricane Ida.

“This work is happening all over Islip Town. We have about 10 spots known for flooding that we are draining today,” said Carpenter.
