Central Islip Senior High School was filled with school spirit in anticipation of its homecoming game. However, the pep rally was not the only celebration this past Friday.
Following the festivities, Central Islip School District administrators, coaches, student-athletes, and other members of the school community gathered at the newly renovated baseball field, where the first of three ribbon-cutting ceremonies commenced. The softball field and tennis courts followed.
The athletic facilities overhaul began in June 2024, just as the school year ended, and was completed this month. Some of the changes made include turf fields, new scoreboards, and the inclusion of state-of-the-art technology. Tetra Tech Architects and The LandTek Group oversaw the project. Representatives from each were in attendance for the unveiling.
Tetra Tech Architects and Engineers are known for their innovative and sustainable designs. They are dedicated to developing the best possible learning environments for entire school communities and are recognized worldwide as leaders in engineering and technical services.
The LandTek Group stands at the forefront of the construction industry of athletic sports facilities. They offer a variety of services, including continuous maintenance even after the project is complete and repair services if needed.
Central Islip School District superintendent Dr. Sharon Dungee proudly shared a few words and acknowledged all those who made the facilities overhaul a success—notably, director of facilities Michael Providente, who worked tirelessly during the entirety of the project
“Without the board of education, we wouldn’t be standing here because they approve all our projects and help us with the funding,” she said.
Former New York Jets defensive lineman, mental health pioneer, and member of the LandTek Group, Marty Lyons, also showed up to support Central Islip athletes. He shared the LandTek tagline, “Building champions from the ground up.”
“For all athletes, one day, their playing days will end, but hopefully, the core values that they learn here as baseball players or softball players will help them and enable them to go out into the community and be successful,” Lyons added.
Pee-wee and varsity athletics continue to be a source of school pride, and Central Islip is no exception. Participating in sports instills sportsmanship, dedication, and a sense of community that will continue to be fostered for years to come.
