Meeya Leaderman is a sophomore bowler from East Islip High School. She was just given Newsday’s top honor of “Bowler of the Year.” She finished the season with the highest average on Long Island with a 213.28, 45 pins higher than her previous season’s average, which was her first season bowling. She helped East Islip win their second consecutive Suffolk County Championship and was a member of the Section XI Girls All Star team that won the New York State Championship. Not only did she finish with the highest average; she finished the season with the second highest game 279, second highest series 718, along with two other 700 series, and was undefeated in all her matches. Meeya also received a scholar athlete award this year and is currently in all honors and AP classes. She was the first girls bowler from East Islip to win this prestigious award since Olivia Lopera, in 2016.
