For over two decades, Dennis Smith was with BID until his retirement last year.

At that time, he also resigned his position as special projects director for the village. Former Greater Patchogue Chamber of Commerce Director David Kennedy filled both roles.

He lived in East Patchogue with his wife, Patty Smith. Together they have three children—Jeanine, Dennis and Daniel—and five grandchildren.

Since his move to the Patchogue area from Brooklyn in 1955 (just after his 5th birthday), he has stayed within three miles of the village.

He died on Friday, June 13. He was 74.
