The 2022 varsity Bellport football team won the county championship game on Friday, Nov. 18 at Stony Brook. They defeated Northport 35-14. Bellport went to the finals for the past two seasons and won last year.
Bellport football won the regular season division championship with a 7-1 record. They were ranked No. 1 in the power ratings by Section XI and are seeded No. 1 for the playoffs. The first playoff game was on Nov. 5 vs. North Babylon. They won 49-32 and advanced to the semifinals at Bellport against Half Hollow Hills East, which they also won, 42-21.
“I was very proud of our resiliency and how we responded to early adversity,” said coach Jaime Fabian, happy to claim another championship title.
Senior team leaders include: Donte Phillips, Jason Hunt, Justin Miles, Alex Brigadir and Luis Rodriguez.
The next game will be the Long Island Championship vs. Garden City Friday at 4:30 p.m. at Hofstra University.
