Islip Town preliminary budget approved

At the Islip Town Board Meeting Tuesday afternoon, the board replaced a key department head, named a new town historian, established a Disability Advisory Board, bonded funds to purchase a parcel of East Islip land for use by the Exchange Ambulance of the Islips and approved its 2016 preliminary budget. A 1.23 percent spending increase with small tax increase is proposed.

I attended the Kansas concert at the Patchogue Theatre on Saturday night with friends. While we were waiting for the show to begin, the band’s manager came out on stage and asked the audience to photograph a poster that was displayed on the stage and then text it to an address he gave us. He said someone in the audience would win a guitar autographed by the whole band and also get a chance to meet and take photos with them.

Ray Cooney is a retired FDNY firefighter, husband, father of three, martial arts instructor, a 10-year Bayport volunteer firefighter and the host of “Firehouse Kitchen.” Cooney grew up in Massapequa and moved to Bayport with his wife Lori Cooney when they were first married. As a black belt couple, in 1995 she opened a Shaolin Dojo on Main Street in Bayport, teaching martial arts to people ages 3 to 100.

On a beautiful, crisp, sunny Sept. 26, the Connetquot School District and hundreds of parents, students and members of a proud community, celebrated the school’s annual Homecoming Weekend. The celebrating began with a Friday night pep rally followed by a Saturday morning neighborhood parade, and culminated with an exciting 41-0 football win over crosstown rival Sachem East.
