Roadwork from Great River to Oakdale

Since Monday, Aug. 31, motorists traveling on the eastbound lanes of Montauk Highway near the Sunrise Highway Oakdale merge experienced road closures due to repaving operations that’s expected to be completed by today, Thursday Sept. 3. The work was done during off-peak daytime hours between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.. That work is expected to continue through next week.

When West Islip resident Mike McGuire hits the pavement at the start of the inaugural Suffolk County Marathon in Hecksher State Park, he won’t be running alone, both figuratively and literally. After all there are more than 2,400 registered participants in that event. However, McGuire, who will run the half-marathon, will also be accompanied by the memory of his dad whose illness was the impetus to begin running for better health.

Questions on school budgets addressed

The Connetquot and Sayville School Districts are among an increasing amount of Long Island School Districts to be criticized by New York State Audits for overestimating and inflating their budgets by either generating millions of dollars in surplus funds or by a lack of oversight on costs and expenses. Those claims have been refuted by both districts.

Small goals lead to larger milestones

The inaugural Suffolk County Marathon and Half-Marathon that takes place on September 13 will be a family event in at least one household in Islip Town. Susan Moran of Brightwaters and her daughter Susannah Moran of Bay Shore have been practicing for the big race. And although they’ll be running in different categories and also at a different pace, they are determined to both celebrate the completion of the Half-Marathon race together.
