A boat parade on the Connetquot River
Going on more than a decade, the annual holiday boat parade featuring 25 to 30 boats on the Connetquot River will begin at 4:45 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 30, and a fireworks show presented by Grucci Fireworks will commence a short time after.
The show will wrap up around 6:45 p.m., and several locations along the river will offer views of the boat parade as well as fireworks, including Vanderbilt Wharf Marina, Snapper Inn and Oakdale Yacht Club.
Each of the boats will be decorated in holiday theme. With the boat parade featuring 25 to 30 boats this year, Bobby Dallas, the main organizer, said he has been impressed with the turnout of participants. This same event just four years ago only featured seven boats.
“It has been growing every year,” Dallas said, “and not only in participants but spectators as well.”
Dallas noted that spectators can purchase hot cocoa and hot pretzels and enjoy fire pits. He also said the event is highly supported by local families.
Dallas has extended thanks to all the boat captains, the Suffolk County Police Department, the Town of Islip and the Great River and Oakdale/West Sayville volunteer fire departments.
