BOHEMIA—The Connetquot High School baseball team improved its season record to 17-4, and advanced to the county AA semifinals with their 8-4 win over Sachem-East. The T-Birds fought back from an early 4-2 deficit at home to take the lead in the fourth inning with three runs, followed by an additional three runs in the fifth inning.
Matt Brown-Eiring went 3-for-3 with two RBIs and Joe Zimmerman added a two-RBI base hit to give the T-Birds the lead over sixth-seeded Sachem-East in their Suffolk AA quarterfinal win. Derek Yalon scored two runs for Connetquot while Matthew Goodis picked up the win, throwing 6 and 2/3 innings including five strikeouts. Connetquot advances to the semifinal round of the tournament against Longwood HS.
First-year head baseball coach Rob Burger was impressed with his team’s defense in the field, as well as their character, coming from behind under such pressure. The T-Birds are ready to face Longwood, and hope to move on to the county championship series.
