A Second Victory

WEST SAYVILLE—On Saturday, June 23, the West Sayville Fire Department Flying Dutchmen drill team continued their winning ways and emerged as victors of the Selden Invitational Drill held at Brookhaven Town Firemen’s Memorial Park in Ridge.
The Flying Dutchmen edged out their 12 competitors to earn top honors in the event with 17 and a half points. The North Lindenhurst Piston Knockers placed second overall with 12 points while the Central Islip Hoboes captured third place with 10 points. The Lindenhurst Snails placed fourth with 9 and a half points and fifth was the Islip Wolves with nine points.
The victory marks the fifth time West Sayville has won the Selden Invitational Drill. It’s also the second victory for the Flying Dutchmen this season and the 181st victory in the team’s history.
The Flying Dutchmen compiled their points by placing third in Three-Man Ladder (6.70 seconds), first in Motor Hook and Ladder Class B (5.27 seconds), fifth in Motor Hook and Ladder Class C (10.04 seconds), tied for first in Motor Hose Class C (12.98 seconds), and second in Buckets (23.23 seconds).
The 2018 Selden Invitational Champions are coached by Frank R. Miller Sr., Robert Marra, and G. Scott Schrader; led by Capt. Michael Marra and Lts. Frank R. Miller Jr. and Daniel Tenney; and composed of Dave Banks, Kevin Candido, Louis Christensen, Diana Fuller, Patrick Garrett, Anthony Gugliuzzo, Kristy Hothan, William Hothan, Ryan Huguenin, Casey Johnson, John Koshar, Robert Noonan, Richard Quenzer, Joseph Quenzer, Douglas Quenzer, Gary A. Schaum, Edward Tenney Jr. and Ryan Tenney.
