Independence Day BBQ for vets
ISLIP TOWN—Last week, local veterans enjoyed a hot meal and entertainment at the United Veterans Beacon House, located at 1715 Union Boulevard in Bay Shore. The annual July 4 barbecue brought together a number of volunteers to give these heroes a good time. The American Bombshells, a ladies retro-style vocal group, provided musical entertainment.
Since 1994, Beacon House has been a beacon of hope for a number of veterans of our nation’s Armed Forces. This 501(c)3 nonprofit has provided them and their families with a safe haven. Over 20,000 individuals have benefitted from housing and specialized support services to those in need on the South Shore, from Massapequa to Patchogue and beyond.
Beacon House manages 42 residential programs throughout Nassau and Suffolk counties. Services include health care, job training and placement, and assistance with linkage to well-earned financial benefits. The organization’s mission is to help veterans regain their self-worth and empower them with the tools necessary to rejoin the community as independent and productive citizens.
The annual Beacon House BBQ for Veterans provides a celebratory atmosphere in which veterans are honored and commemorated for their dedication and sacrifice. Tents, food, drink and entertainment have long made this a fun yet special event.
