Maintaining all school programs

FIRE ISLAND—On Tuesday, May 15, residents in the Fire Island School District will head to the polls to vote on the 2018-19 school budget, which supports all current academic, curricular and support programs, while carrying no tax levy increase for the second consecutive year. The proposed budget is $6,338,219.

The Woodhull School, which is located in Ocean Beach, is home to students in grades K-6. Upon graduation, students are given the option of attending either the Bay Shore or Islip school districts.

There are also three incumbents running unopposed for three open seats on the board of trustees: Lisa Kaufman (board member since 2006), Kathleen Skelly-Kurka (board member since 2008) and Amy Wood (board member since 2003). Terms are for three years. None of the candidates responded to requests for comments by press time.

The polls will be open between the hours of 3-9 p.m. at the Woodhull School.
