Frontier launches five new flights from LIMA
RONKONKOMA—Frontier Airlines is expending its services at Long Island MacArthur Airport. During a press conference on Monday, April 9, the Denver-based airline formally launched new nonstop services to Atlanta, Chicago, Detroit, Minneapolis-Saint Paul and San Juan, Puerto Rico.
Flights to the new cities began April 8-9, and will further expand the options currently available to local businesses and leisure travelers, and increase MacArthur Airport’s economic impact, according to an Islip Town press release.
Airport commissioner Shelley LaRose-Arken said Long Island residents are going to “significantly benefit” from MacArthur’s service to Chicago O’Hare, which she described as “Long Island MacArthur Airport’s No. 1 underserved market.”
A Frontier spokesperson, Jonathan Freed, also said that beginning May 20, Frontier would be flying to Myrtle Beach from MacArthur Airport.
“Frontier’s daily service will enable our Long Island business community to fly from MacArthur Airport to the commercial meccas of Atlanta, Detroit, Chicago, and Minneapolis… all with less hassle, lines, and traffic,” LaRose-Arken added.
“Our Long Island businesses will enjoy easy access to major cities and the Fortune 500 companies based there,” said Islip town supervisor Angie Carpenter. “Additional service brings positive economic impact and job growth to our community.”
Kevin Law, president and chief executive officer of the Long Island Association, called the new flights a “benefit to the region” and “significant step forward in realizing the full potential of the Islip-owned airport.”
Southwest Airlines recently launched, out of LIMA, a new flight to and from Raleigh-Durham International Airport in North Carolina. The service is offered twice a day, with a stopover in Baltimore.
LaRose-Arken said MacArthur has doubled the number of nonstop destinations within the past year, with Frontier introducing more than 75,000 new passengers to the airport in 2017. “Based on April’s air carrier schedules, MacArthur Airport has 50 percent growth in seat volume, making the airport the fastest-growing domestic airport in America,” she added. “Not only are we marketing the convenient service options and destinations from MacArthur Airport, we are also beginning a new campaign later this month to bring businesses and visitors to Long Island.”
