Bank drive-through on hold
OAKDALE—The Islip Town Planning Board reserved decision on an application that would have allowed for an existing bank to build a drive-through window. The board cited a number of concerns with the current application.
The applicant, Bank of America, requested a special permit for a drive-through window for their facility in a Business 1 district located on the southwest corner of the South Sunrise Highway Service Road and Ocean Avenue in Oakdale. Site plan modifications were also requested as part of this application.
However, since the bank is located in a building that is also occupied by a medical office, board members Michael Kennedy and Joe DeVincent expressed concern about the close proximity of the building’s doorways to the proposed drive-through lane. “It seems a little dangerous to have the doors open up onto an oncoming car [headed to an ATM],” DeVincent said.
Both the applicant and the board agreed that the application requires further review.
