Fire districts across Long Island will hold their annual elections on Tuesday, Dec. 8

Bayport

No one filed an official application for the vacant fire commissioner seat. But an election must occur, and the individual who receives the most write-in votes will be named the fire commissioner.

Bohemia

Two challengers are running to fill the vacated fire commissioner seat previously held by Thomas Riedel. Either of the challengers Kevin Albro and Thomas Elias will be elected on Dec. 8.

Sayville

Two challengers are running to fill the vacated fire commissioner seat. Either of the challengers Christopher Bailey or Marc Henig will be elected on Dec. 8.

Former commissioner Christopher Bailey resigned from the post he is currently seeking this past summer after he commented on a post about a Black Lives Matter protest in Sayville with the threat, “Bring it, [expletive]” accompanied with a photo of firearms. The Sayville Fire Department did not comment, but eventually posted a message on their website condemning the actions of Bailey, but alternatively citing the First Amendment as his right to make threats.

On June 5, the Sayville Fire Department said on their official Facebook account that, following “an emergency meeting of the Board of Fire Commissioners of the Sayville Fire District, the Board voted to immediately remove Commissioner Christopher Bailey as chairman of the Board, as well as request his resignation as Commissioner.”

West Sayville

Challenger Rob Cabano will run unopposed for the fire commissioner seat previously held by Thomas McNamara.
