Taking into account the state’s announcement of the executive order to PAUSE due to the health pandemic, state Sen. Monica Martinez has authored and/or co-sponsored 10 pieces of legis- lation that work to protect individuals put at risk of contracting the virus due to their lines of work.

“As lawmakers, it is our responsibility to find solutions which will ease the burdens many of our communities are facing. The COVID crisis has stricken New York State and the residents of the Third Senatorial District in ways no one could have foreseen. I have listened to the pleas for help and these pieces of legislation will bring results. While we may be on ‘PAUSE’ for the health and safety of us all, I have not stopped working and fighting for my district,” stated Martinez.

One of the pieces of legislation Martinez introduced recently is the Unsung Heroes Act of 2020, which guarantees sick leave, coverage of medical expenses, and job security to those defined as an essential worker under the executive order, including but not limited to health care personnel.

Both the Albany and District Office of Martinez have been accessible via phone and email to all constituents, according to a press release disseminated on May 1.

“Over 20 letters have been written from my office to agencies and executives on behalf of the residents and the communities who are struggling to survive during this crisis. During a time where every single day counts, I will continue to fight for the issues which are important to the residents of my district. Every day my job is to fight for a better tomorrow,” Martinez said.
