Proposed budget total: $75,603,645

Increase (from 2019-2020 budget): $2,159,679 (2.94 percent)

STATE AID: Last year, 2019-2020, the state aid given to Bayport-Blue Point School District was $18,032,625, or 25 percent of the total budget. Given this year’s fiscal crisis with the state from lost revenue due to COVID-19, it is anticipated that state aid will diminish by up to 20 percent. To combat this loss, the district has planned for a 10 percent cut in funding with plans to address “additional reductions over this 10 percent... using the fund balance and reserve accounts.”

BUDGET HIGHLIGHTS: The proposed budget is “compliant with the tax-cap legislation and maintains all current instructional and co-curricular offerings, as well as provides for a few programmat- ic enhancements.” These include the expansion of the Columbia University Teachers’ College Reading program to grades 2-5, a new K-5 math program, a new grade 5 science program, an AP Research course at the high school, a boys JV volleyball program and an expansion of the 1:1 Chromebook initiative to grades 6-12.

Noted increases/ decreases in budget:

Staff development (+83.8 percent), federal funding had previously provided for these expenditures and now must be paid for out of the budget.

Service contract increases for all five buildings, including new contracts for geese control, field seeding and maintenance, bid prices for garbage removal, increased boiler maintenance costs, increased cesspool maintenance costs, increased pest management costs.
